Surefire Way To Recession-Proof Your Business

If your business depends on factors which you can’t control then you are building your business on shaky ground. As much as I’m known for using organic traffic for my web business, I never want to 100% depend on it.

However, there’s one factor in any business that will withstand all recession, all search engine changes, all types of slaps which is none other than – you. Yes, being yourself, being unique to your marketplace is crucial to long term business success.

You

Just like myself, you are probably in business to serve others & in return you earn a profit. The better you serve others, you more profits you make, simple? Now I want to just talk about YOU.

Standing Out

You must stand out, head & shoulders above your competitors! (I know it’s kinda odd that a wheelchair-bound guy like me asking you to stand!) There must be a unique factor in you that makes other people take notice of you.

Just like in American Idol, many good vocalists are eliminated from the competition & never have a chance to release an album. Why? Just because a good voice is not enough, being outstanding is the key.

Think of yourself as an artiste, what makes you different from the pack & why should people listen to you? These questions will give you a clearer direction in where you want to go next in your business.

Leverage

You must start leveraging existing stuff you’ve already got. Work on your strengths, what are you passionate about, what do you excel in, what do others say you are good at?

Rather than trying to improve your weakness, why not spend more effort in improving your strengths? You might have heard the saying – do what you do best, outsource the rest.

Them

Now, it’s time to talk about THEM, yes, your audience, your marketplace, your customers, your potential-customers.

Wants

You really do have to know what people want if not, how is it possible for you to serve them well. Many people like to talk about keyword research yet few ever mention about ‘audience research’. (Okay, I made up that phrase!)

I’m not saying that keyword research is useless, it has it’s place. Start thinking of what exactly are people experiencing just before they enter that keyword into the search engines. (This is for both SEO & PPC people.) The mindset of people before they do searches goes a long way, think about it.

Words

You need to use the right words that will make you money. After you know what people want, you must articulate it in such a way that will appeal to them. Some people call it matching the conversation in the minds of your audience.

In short, express your words in the same way your audience think, once your words resonate with their thoughts, there’s a bonding that’s formed with you & them. Bonding creates trust, people buy from those they trust & you want more people to trust you so that more people will buy from you, isn’t that right?

Looks like we got a bit to think about, what do you think of what I just said, feel free to drop a comment.

Wishing YOU Success In Life,
Craig Johnson

Hi Craig,

Thank you for sharing this fantastic article.

Your article has really give me a solid reminder that we are still able to control how we ourself think or act although we might not be able to control the external environment that affects the situation.

I also agree with you that the more value that we give to the customers, the more that we will receive.  Honesty and the willingness to help will always helps a business to grow on a long term basis.

I caught this at a coffe shop today. I’m sure it’s as relevant online today as it was offline in 1890
A customer is the most important visitor on our premises.
He is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him.
He is not an interruption in our work – he is the purpose of it.
We are not doing him a favour by serving him. He is doing us a favour by giving us the opportunity to serve him.

Hi Craig,

Thank you for sharing these tips. This all what we need to succeed in online marketing. I was checking my emails this morning and shaking my head in amazement at most of emails’ subjects and wonder how these are making money and who can open and read their offers!!! So, what makes me open your email? It’s your wise words. If everybody use the right words in the right time to right audience no one will suffer bad results.

My problem is not about recession, to say the least. It is getting into the habit of producing materials, because it is impossible to reach your goal if the habit of producing is not developed. They say you have to keep practising. For the same reasons, I think having lack of practice and unable to focus is key to being to reach our goals.

I would like to know your views on how we can become more focus on producing relevant materials that take us to our goals.

Craig Johnson Says:

You wanna know how to focus on producing relevant material? Stay tuned to this blog & soon enough, I’ll blog about it…..
