Article marketing could be the oldest trick in the book. As they say, being old is better than being dead! It has been working very well since the start of the internet, it still works today & very likely, it will continue to work well in time to come.

Super Quick Summary

You write articles, put links in your resource box, submit them & you get targeted traffic. Send that traffic to a squeeze page or a blog with an opt-in box above the fold. Always focus on building your subscriber list! Then preschedule emails with content & related offers will be sent to your subscribers.

Keep submitting articles, keep building your list, keep sending them emails, end of story? Not really, however, if you do end here, you are good to go & if want to go from good to beyond GREAT, read on…..

Article Marketing Root Problem

The first problem that most people face with article marketing is none other than the fact that they simply have no idea! What you are about to see is a simple & fast method to find endless ideas. Be careful….. you might not be able to sleep when you have way too many ideas!

Article Marketing Research

Many people actually hate the idea of research, however, in terms of internet marketing, there is simply no way you can avoid it so why not embrace it right now? You about to see how simple it can be, even if you have no experience.

First of all, to make things easier, you think of a topic which you are passionate about or at least something you are very familiar with. It could be your past job experiences, your hobbies, problems you solved, skills you have & more.

Ezine Articles is the top article directory & that is where we start. Type in your topic into the search box, read the first 5 – 10 articles that appear.

On each article page, when you scroll down you will see a list of the most viewed articles in your category. These articles are obviously more popular than the rest, so you read them as well.

Paper & Pen

As you are reading those articles, take out your pen & paper, write down all the important keywords & the best ideas. The more you read, the more words you find, the more words you find, the more ideas you get. Just write as much as you can, being a little messy is fine at this stage.

Article Organization

Now that you got your list or cluster of words, it is time to get organized before you start writing. You need to do this because this will help you write better & faster. Now you start by grouping related keywords together, here are a few simple examples…..

You group 1 main topic with 4 – 6 sub topics under them. That was a quick example, you get the idea….. Now you can see your words turning into organized points. Expand those words into sentences, with sentences, you get paragraphs, with paragraphs & you end up with articles! Simple?

When you do it for the first time, you might feel uneasy like I did. As you do it more often, it just gets easier. Just like riding a bicycle, once you get it, you get it, it can never be taken away from you!

Your Articles

Each article should be at least 250 words. If your article is much more than 500 words, then split it into 2 articles. Your keyword density should not be more than 2%, do not spam your keywords. Follow these guidelines so that EzineArticles will allow your articles to be approved.

Resource Box

Here is another part of article marketing, I see so many people screw up, not for you because you are about to learn how to write a compelling resource box. Think of your resource box like an ad you see on Google AdWords. You can borrow writing ideas from the AdWords guys too!

It must create some curiosity, it must have a clear call to action, say something like, click here, check it out now or something like that. You can have 2 links on your resource box, 1 link goes to your squeeze page, 1 goes to your blog with an opt-in box above the fold.

Article Action Plan

Homework time! No punishment if you skip but you will NOT make money! Just do it if you really want to make money.

Write 5 articles per day for 5 days per week. You must write at least 5 articles per sitting in order to save you time. Submit 5 articles per day, do NOT submit all 25 articles at once at the end of the week.

Keep doing this until you hit at least 250 articles, you will surely see your traffic get more & more consistent. If you can afford it, by all means, hire ghostwriters to do the writing for you.

Ezine Articles

EzineArticles has an option for you to be a premium member which allows you to preschedule your articles to be published bit by bit over time, some people call this content dripping. There is a catch! $97 per month! Ouch! Of course, there are other benefits as a premium member, however I do not see the need for them.

First of all why should you submit your articles to directories bit by bit instead of all at once? The answer is simple….. because a sudden surge in the number of backlinks to your website is a red flag for the search engines.

Not quite getting this, as your example (weight loss methods) is broad. If I target something like herb home garden and I search for that in Ezine Articles, the 15 most viewed articles reference tomato growing – does that mean I should be targeting the tomato growing keywords in my herb home garden article?

Craig, for awhile I used Ezine Articles, Article Alley, Article Base, Go Articles and now Buzzle. The only ones I’ve seen backlinks from are Ezine Articles & Buzzle, the others none. I’ve written several articles for each directory. Have you had any different results?

At last update, there are 152 article directories the software can post to. One thing about Article Drip Robot is that they have already done the work to select for you the directories based on high Pagerank or good Alexa ranking, so you can be assured that their directories have value in terms of either Pagerank juice, or visitors. There are other article submission software that can post to 1000s of directories – these are mostly worthless and you’ll just be wasting your time doing that.

If time is a constraint, then you might want to use the software to sort the article directories by Pagerank, and post to the first half with higher Pagerank.

You can target tomato growing keywords in your herb home garden article if they are related, again, I know nuts about gardening.

Article marketing is here to stay. Period. Which is why you might as well maximize it & get as much traffic as you can.

If you want to see good resource boxes, very simple, you click on the top authors, those with most articles, then look at their resource box.

Obviously, those people with more than a few thousand articles must know what they are doing, right?

If you want more niche specific resource boxes, click on any category, then click on top authors within category, now you can see very specific examples.

I focused mainly on Ezine Articles. As for backlinks, I usually do not bother too much with it, I track my exact traffic & Ezine Articles beats them all!

If you place your keywords properly, you can see articles getting ranked on Google & more article views usually leads to more clicks.

Excellent rundown on ways to get ideas. I use articles a lot in various niches and I must admit Ezine Articles beats them all every time. A steady drip of valuable content gets great traffic and you can’t beat that when it’s free!

Another good way to get ideas is to set up Google alerts for your main keywords. Nice, quick source of info and also ideal for keeping an eye on what your competitors are up to!

Most viewed or poplular does not mean best article. Your article headline is what catches the readers eye. All articles should be viewed for best content (ideas) then you should try to re-work the titles to work your keyword(s) in.
