Easy Organic Traffic Series 3 – Link Building
In the previous blog post, we discussed about on-page seo, this post we shall talk about off-page seo. Building incoming links is one of the most important factors in getting ranked well.
Link Types
Anchor Text
Your anchor text must be keyword-rich, instead of just http://www.websitetrafficbuildingtool.com, you should get links that look like this….. Website Traffic Building Tool. Also vary your anchor text, most links should have you main keywords & some should have other related keywords.
URL Format
Make your link url consistent throughout so that you will get maximum relevancy boost from all incoming links. Here are some examples of different url link formats, so stick to one:
- http://websitetrafficbuildingtool.com
- http://websitetrafficbuildingtool.com/index.php
Linking Out
It is alright to link out to other sites, however, you want to make sure that you only link out to reputable sites. Do make your links open in a new browser so that your visitor will not leave your site too easily.
Link Quality
Not all links are made equal! Links that are “no follow” will not help you rank better though they might get you some traffic. One way links are higher in quality compared to reciprocal linking.
The number of other links on the page which is linking to you also matters. If there are 100s of links on a page & yours is one of them, the quality is much lower.
The page rank & quality on the page which links to you is also very important, if your links appear on sites like about.com, that’s a nice boost to your link power.
Not Too Fast
Yes, we want as many incoming as possible in the shortest possible time! That’s not a good idea, it’s unnatural in the eyes of the search engines, adding incoming links should be consistent, not sure fast.
Rather than getting 1000s of links in a few days, you should consistently get maybe about 10 links per day over time.
Wishing YOU Success In Life,

I agree on what has been said above. But the real difficult thing in link building is how to get good links from others. Do you have any suggestion on those?
Getting good links is a long story altogether, maybe I’ll cover more in future blog posts. You can contribute content to other people’s sites & let them link back to you in return, also request for a link with your prefered anchor text.
I was wondering about number of keywords you should target at any one time. Is it one keyword at a time. Suppose I wanted to target the keyword the best home business & would I anchor that keyword only or do I anchor related keywords as well? Thanks.
Sorry, messed up the html

Target 1 main keyword & a few other sub keywords. Read the past blog posts if you want more ideas on keyword selection.
Thank you for helping me learn the basics about link building. Would it be possible for you to talk about building links for blogs and how that might be different than buidling links for a regular website? Or is it the same?
Do you recommend setting up Web 2.0 sites and link them back to your blog? Do you think its better to have a .com or is a blogger account ok? Thanks for the info.
Somehow it seems easier to get links for blogs compared to static websites, especially if you are using wordpress.
Getting links from web2.0 sites back to your blog is very useful, I can’t cover all that here, once again, I’ll blog about it soon.
Craig
Some great advice, thanks very much and keep it up!!
No problem, glad you like it…..
Thanks for useful, common sense tips as always, Craig. Link building isn’t that difficult, but it does take time. Just try to budget half and hour or so for this activity each day and it WILL add up over time, paying nice dividends…
That’s right! 30 minutes is fine!
This is excellent advice about link building. I wondered why you only submit only about 10 a day, instead of just going for the 1000 a day. Thanks.
Submitting bit by bit over time is more natural and the fact that you add content over time helps your SEO.
I am putting my web site together. I am a prolific writer and so I have ebooks and look forward to doing a newsletter. I want to do affiliate marketing so I have been reading up about that. I want to understand more about search engines and how to drive traffic. I am so much of a newbie I only know Microsoft word and the little bit I am getting to know about affiliate stuff. Should I go take a computer course? What is really going to help me understand things. Thanks for the information. Thanks for the book.
Diana, you do not need to take a computer course, they will teach you anything that helps you make money. Simple internet tasks, you will naturally pick them up as you go along.
Since you are already a prolific writer, I hope you are submitting your articles to Ezine Articles. They will give you exposure and traffic.
I’m glad you like my information and my book, stay tuned to my emails and blog, I have more coming up….. Thanks again for reading.
